Acquire an owner-operated trucking company in Georgia

Independent motor carriers in Georgia with an owner on file, a direct line, and often a personal email, sourced from a US federal filing, not scraped from a listing site or guessed from a website. Most are not for sale anywhere, because most have never been approached.

Georgia carriers, fully contactable: 18,643
Share of the national total: 4.9%
Direct phone coverage: 99%
Owner email coverage: 38%
Source: the FMCSA motor-carrier register (US federal filing). Full production scan as of 2026-09-06, not a sample. It is an exact count that will move the next time FMCSA refreshes, which is why we date it here rather than presenting it as fixed.
Owner-operated motor carriers, not brokerages or asset-light freight forwarders
A named owner on file with the FMCSA register
A direct phone number (carried by 99% of the register, an FMCSA filing requirement)
A personal owner email where one exists, not a dispatch or info@ inbox
The FMCSA register gives us the carrier, its owner, and how to reach them. It does not report revenue or profit, because no government filing does. Anywhere on Serava that shows a revenue or EBITDA figure, that number is modeled from industry benchmarks for a business of that size and type, not reported by the company. Treat it as a planning estimate, never as a fact about a specific carrier.

How this data is built

The FMCSA motor-carrier register (US federal filing) lists every operating US motor carrier by federal requirement, which is why phone coverage sits at 99% because a filer without a working phone number is not compliant. Owner-email coverage is lower (38%) because email is not a required field, but where one exists, 97% of the time it is a personal address rather than a shared dispatch inbox.

Georgia’s 18,643 fully-contactable carriers are an exact partition of the national 380,000+, a full production-database scan (2026-09-06), not a sample. An earlier per-state pull was a sampled estimate that overstated some states by more than 6%; these are the corrected exact counts.

We measured owner-email coverage at 0% across 16 of 17 real customer maps in other industries before finding this one. The database is not uniformly thin, it is excellent in transport and logistics and thinner elsewhere, and this is the one vertical where we can honestly promise a contactable owner today.

Direct phone, almost always
99% of registered carriers carry a working direct phone number on file with the federal register.
Personal owner email, often
18,643 Georgia carriers have a named owner, a personal email, and a direct phone all three. 97% of covered emails are personal, not a shared inbox.

Buying a trucking company in Georgia: common questions

How many trucking companies in Georgia could I actually acquire?

Serava holds 18,643 contactable owner-operated motor carriers in Georgia, which is 4.9% of the US contactable register. That is the population with a named owner on file, not the total number of authorities registered in the state. Most are single-owner carriers running fewer than 20 power units and none of them are listed with a broker.

Is it better to buy the authority or the freight?

They are different assets at different prices. A clean, aged operating authority is worth something to an operator who already has drivers and shippers; a carrier with contracted lanes, retained drivers and its own tractors is worth a multiple of earnings. Price the fleet and the freight separately before blending them, because a seller quoting one multiple has usually blended them already.

What should I check before making an offer on a Georgia carrier?

Start with the public record, because it is the only part you can verify before an NDA: authority status and age, crash and roadside inspection history, and out-of-service rates. Then driver tenure from pay records rather than headcount, the contracted versus spot freight mix, customer concentration by shipper and by lane, whether receivables are factored and whether that agreement survives a change of control, and three years of insurance loss runs taken to your own broker.

How do I reach the owner of a small carrier that is not for sale?

Directly, and with something specific. Across the register Serava holds a named owner and their email on the same record for 29% of carriers, and a named owner with a phone for 38%, which is the deepest owner-contact coverage of any vertical we track. Name the authority, the domicile and roughly the fleet size, and ask about succession rather than about a transaction. Most owner-operators have never been approached and almost none have a broker.

Why are these carriers not on a marketplace?

Because nobody listed them. The FMCSA register is a compliance filing, not a for-sale list, so a carrier appears there whether or not the owner has ever considered selling. That is the point of sourcing this way: you are talking to owners before a process starts, rather than bidding against everyone who saw the same listing.
